Lift Up Your Heart and Look to Christ

True joy is found by focusing on Jesus Christ, even during sorrow and uncertainty.

There are moments when the world feels heavy. Bad news, broken relationships, disappointment, or regret can make it feel like joy is impossible. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t the pain—it’s wondering if things will ever feel better.

Lasting joy comes from looking to Jesus Christ, even in sorrow.

Enoch saw the suffering and wickedness of the world, and it crushed him. He felt so much sorrow that he said he refused to be comforted. But the Lord didn’t leave him there.

“But the Lord said unto Enoch: Lift up your heart, and be glad; and look.”
(Moses 7:44)

When Enoch looked, he saw the coming of Jesus Christ—and everything changed.

“And Enoch saw the coming of the Son of Man… and his soul rejoiced.”
(Moses 7:47)

The pain didn’t disappear, but hope entered the picture. Christ was the answer. He would heal, save, and gather His people. Joy came not from ignoring reality, but from shifting focus.

“The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”
—President Russell M. Nelson

Christ invites us to do what Enoch did—to lift up our hearts and look to Him. When we do, joy slowly replaces despair, and hope grows where sorrow once lived.

Reflection Question:
What has been weighing on your heart lately, and how might looking to Christ help you see it differently?

Small Application:
Today, take a quiet moment to focus on Christ—through prayer, scripture, or gratitude—and write down one way He brings hope into your life.
